Our Story

About the Foundation

A legacy of compassion, built on integrity and a passion for the underprivileged.

Our History

A Vision Born of Experience

Chief J.O. Omuya Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) established and incorporated in Nigeria with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), by Chief Joshua Ozigi Omuya — to promote welfare activities aimed at the alleviation of human suffering and the amelioration of underdevelopment in society.

Chief Omuya's mandate has always centred on offering scholarships to indigent but brilliant students and orphans at both secondary and tertiary levels of education; providing a modest lifeline for widows; and extending support to evangelism.

Chief Ozigi Joshua Omuya, himself an orphan who experienced the pangs of the orphanage, resolved right from his early work life in 1978 to give back to society — in his own little way — the favours he had received. For over three decades, he developed the penchant for offering scholarships to children in precarious situations similar to his own as a young college boy. He has given similar support to widows, and combined his charity activities with evangelism, reflecting the enormous influence his Christian faith had on him as a devout Anglican.

As he clocked 60 on February 9, 2014, Chief Omuya formally institutionalised his charity — christened the Chief J.O. Omuya Foundation. The Foundation's values for excellence shall be premised on Honesty, Integrity, Sincerity and Transparency.

Founder & Patron

Chief Joshua Ozigi Omuya is an orphan who experienced first-hand the pangs of the orphanage. He knew too well how it feels to be an orphan, and as he elbowed his way from grass to grace, he experienced some milestone of benevolence from public-spirited individuals he had never previously met.

Fired by an immense sense of appreciation, he resolved — albeit quietly — right from his early work life in 1978, to give back to society. For over three decades, Chief Omuya developed the penchant for offering scholarships to children in precarious situations, similar to his own as a young college boy.

He has given similar support to widows, and combined his charity activities with evangelism — reflecting the enormous influence his Christian faith had on him as a devout Anglican. On February 9, 2014, as he clocked 60, he formally institutionalised his charity as the Chief J.O. Omuya Foundation.
